Dissolution

Columbus, Ohio, Attorneys for Dissolution of Marriage

When a marriage ends, the way matters are handled can sometimes have a lasting impact on the ability of both spouses to move forward. Sometimes things can be resolved cost-effectively, with little conflict, through dissolution of marriage. At the Columbus, Ohio, law firm of Edward F. Whipps & Associates, we can help.

Getting a Dissolution of Marriage in Ohio

Dissolution of marriage requires that both spouses agree to all of the major issues related to the end of their marriage — matters like child support, child custody and alimony — all put in writing in a document known as a separation agreement. That agreement is submitted to the court with a petition for dissolution where the spouses ask the court to dissolve their marriage.

Ohio courts require that 30 days pass. Then, the couple may come to court and testify under oath about the accuracy of the petition. The court will then usually grant dissolution of marriage.

Dissolution can be the simplest, most respectful way to end a marriage. But sometimes a spouse does not want to agree on all the issues. In those cases, seeking an uncontested divorce is often a better solution. Cases can always be converted from divorce proceedings to dissolution actions when the agreement of both parties becomes possible.
